Privacy notice

Last updated 23 October 2026

This notice explains what information Jenner Learning holds about you and your children, why we hold it, who else sees it and what you can do about it. We've written it for parents, in plain English. There's a shorter version for children at the end.

Who we are

Jenner Learning is run by Thomas Jenner, a sole trader trading as Jenner Learning. We decide how your information is used, which makes us the controller of it under UK data protection law.

Contact us about anything in this notice at hello@jennerlearning.co.uk. Our postal address is Postal address, to be added before launch. Our registration number with the Information Commission (the ICO) is ZC277477.

What we hold about you

  • Your email address and a scrambled copy of your password. We can never see your actual password.
  • A scrambled copy of your 4-digit child mode PIN.
  • If your child has a GCSE Maths place and you link their own device to student mode: the name you give each device, when it was linked and last used, and when you removed it.
  • If you download printable GCSE Maths papers or mark schemes, or print a mock exam for your child to sit at home: what you downloaded, when, and the licence code printed on every page of that copy.
  • If your child sits a mock exam on paper at home: the letters you type in from their answer sheet. The printed answer sheet has a space for your child's first name. That sheet stays with you and never comes back to us.
  • Your plan, how many places it has, and when it renews or ends.
  • If the link you used to reach Jenner Learning ended in a short code (like ?ref=fb-open), that code, kept with your account when you create it. We only look at totals, and no cookie is used.
  • If you joined the waitlist: your email, your first name and your child's school year, if you gave them, the wording you agreed to, when we sent the one email confirming you'd joined, whether you also asked to hear when mock weekend dates are set, whether you asked us to email you if you can try Jenner Learning free before it opens and when you ticked that box, when we sent you that email and when you told us "no thanks", if we did and you did, and the date you unsubscribed, if you did.
  • If we send your family a founding price invitation, or a founding code you asked for: the date we sent it and the last day to use it; when we emailed it to you and when we sent your one reminder, if we did; whether it has been added to a Jenner Learning account, which account, when and how (by your invitation link, by signing up with the email we invited, or by typing the code); when a founding plan started with it, and Stripe's reference for that plan; and the date we withdrew it, if we did. We never store your code or invitation link in a form anyone can read. We keep a scrambled version that can't be turned back into the code, and the code's last two characters, so we can recognise it if you contact us. So that your reminder can repeat your code, we also keep a locked (encrypted) copy that only our website's key can open. We delete that copy one day after your reminder is sent, or sooner if you start a founding plan, we withdraw the code, or the last day to use it passes.
  • If someone types a founding code that doesn't work on your account, the time it was typed, so we can stop anyone trying more than 10 codes an hour. We delete this after a day.
  • If you asked on the Birmingham 11+ guide to be emailed when the entry dates are published, your email and the wording you agreed to.
  • If you asked on our free mock page to be emailed when booking opens, your email, which version of the wording you agreed to, when you asked, any short code in the link you arrived on, and when we emailed you or you unsubscribed.
  • If we've given your family a free account, the email it's for, its end date, and when it was added and removed. We may add your email before you sign up, so the free account is ready when you do. We may also keep a short note for ourselves, such as how we know you. That note never holds anything about your child.
  • If your family is taking part in our beta: that you're on our beta list, and the beta number we gave you, which we keep in our note on your free account. If you fill in our weekly feedback form, your answers and your beta number are held in Tally (a Belgian form service; answers stored in the EU). The form never asks for your name, your email or your child's name.
  • If you report a question with "Something wrong with this question?": the question, the reason you picked, any note you add (up to 300 characters), which account it came from, whether it was sent from child mode, and when. Children can only pick a reason. They can't type anything.

Stripe, our payment provider, handles your card details. They never reach Jenner Learning. We hold only Stripe's reference numbers for you and your plan.

What we hold about your children

We keep this as small as we can. Children have no email address and no surname on Jenner Learning. They practise inside your account in child mode. If your child has a GCSE Maths place, they can also use student mode on their own device, opened with a PIN they choose. Student mode belongs to your account and needs no email address.

  • Their first name and school year, which you enter.
  • Their month and year of birth, if you choose to give it. We use it only so mock exam scores allow for age, like the real 11+ test.
  • Every answer they give, whether it was right, and when they gave it.
  • Their working notes, which they type to explain how they reached an answer.
  • Their skill scores, mock paper results and mock exam results.
  • If they move course, for example from 11+ Year 4 to 11+ Year 5 in September, the course they moved from and the date.
  • Whether they answered a question after opening a clue, and the question a clue was last opened for. An answer after a clue counts as practice but doesn't change their skill score.
  • For mock exams: when each section's clock started and when they first answered each question, so we can show you how they used their time.
  • When each skill they've mastered is next due a quick refresh, and how many refreshes are left.
  • For GCSE Maths, if your child uses the mock plan: the topics they mark red, amber or green after a mock exam at school, when they last changed each one, and the start and end dates of their plan. We don't ask for their paper, marks or photos.
  • For GCSE Maths: whether they're on Foundation or Higher; a scrambled copy of the PIN they choose for student mode (we can never see the PIN itself); the answers they type; and their practice paper results, which are when they sat each paper, their answers, the marks for each part and an estimated grade.
  • Whether you've turned on 25% extra time for timed papers, and whether each paper was sat with it. We store only that it's on, never why. We don't ask for a reason or for evidence, so please don't send us one. It is used only to set the paper timer, it isn't shown to anyone outside your family, and it is deleted with the rest of your child's progress.

Working notes are free text, so please remind your child not to type anything personal in them, like their surname, school or address. You can read every note in your parent area, except a GCSE student's.

For GCSE Maths, you see your child's marks, estimated grades, the topics they've practised, how long they've spent and whether extra time is on. The answers they type and their working notes stay private to them, and they can download them in student mode. We keep typed answers only so we can check a question that seems to have been marked wrongly. Estimated grades come from our own grade boundaries, set from the exam boards' recent published boundaries. They are always labelled as estimates and never shared outside your family.

You can see whether an answer came after a clue, and, after each mock exam your child sits online, how long they took over each section and question. The timings are for you: your child doesn't see them. For GCSE Maths you can also see the topics your child has marked on their mock plan, and the plan itself. Only your child can change the colours, and the mock plan screen tells them you can see it.

Some things happen only on your child's device. The Read to me button, the spoken instructions in mock exams and the "Show me how" moving pictures use the device's own voice and drawing. Nothing they read or show is sent to us or anyone else, and we don't record when they're used. Whether Read to me is on is a setting you choose for each child.

Year 3 start. For children in Year 3 we also keep the stickers they earn for finishing sessions. The read-aloud button uses your device's own voice: what it reads is not sent to us or anyone else, and we don't record when it's used. Year 3 children don't sit mock exams, don't get scores, and don't have working notes. When your child moves to Year 4 in September, we'll email you first, and anything that was off stays off until you turn it on.

Why we use it

What we doOur legal reason
Run your account: your login, your plan, your PIN and your settingsTo provide the service you signed up for (our contract with you)
Use your child's answers and scores to choose their next question, show you their progress, run mock papers and mock exams, and show their streaks, badges, lessons and study planLegitimate interests: yours and ours in your child getting the practice you chose for them. See "Your child's information" below.
Compare mock exam scores with other Jenner Learning children who sat the same exam, so we can show an estimated score (never an official result) and a position like "higher than 70% of pupils"Legitimate interests, as above. No other family ever sees your child's name or score.
Suggest what to practise next, from answers and scores we already hold: after a mock exam, the skills that lost most marks; a quick refresh of skills your child has mastered; a short "This week" plan on your progress page and in your weekly email; and, for GCSE Maths, a weekly plan from the topics your child marks after a school mockLegitimate interests, as above
Show you how your child used their time in a mock exam, and keep the letters you type in for a mock sat on paper so we can mark itLegitimate interests, as above
Use your child's month and year of birth, if you give it, so mock exam scores allow for ageLegitimate interests, as above. Giving it is up to you.
If your child has a GCSE Maths place: run student mode on their own device, mark their typed answers and practice papers, set the paper timer (with 25% extra time if you turn it on), and show you their marks and estimated gradesLegitimate interests, as above
Keep a record of each printable paper or mark scheme you download, with the licence code printed on it, so we can keep to the monthly download limit and trace copies shared or sold against our termsTo provide the plan you chose (our contract with you), and our legitimate interest in stopping our papers being copied or sold
Treat a mock exam your family has printed as one your family has seen, so a brother or sister who sits it online later gets a score but isn't compared with other pupilsOur legitimate interest, and other families', in fair comparisons
Take payments and keep payment recordsOur contract with you, and the law, which requires us to keep financial records
Spot questions that most children get wrong in the same way, so we can fix or improve themOur legitimate interest in accurate questions. We look at answers across all children together, not at one child.
Keep the service secure and workingOur legitimate interest in a safe, reliable service
Email waitlist families when Jenner Learning opens, with your founding price, and one reminder before your founding price endsYour consent, which you can withdraw at any time with the unsubscribe link in every email
Email you when mock weekend dates are set, if you ticked that separate box when you joined the waitlistYour consent, which you can withdraw at any time with the unsubscribe link in every email
Email you once to offer early free access before we open, if you ticked that separate box when you joined the waitlistYour consent, which you can withdraw at any time by replying "no thanks" to the email or by emailing us
Give your account the founding price when you use your invitation link or code, or sign up with the email we invited; make sure each code is used only once; and send you a code if you ask for one after unsubscribingTo take the steps you ask for before you start a plan, and then to give you the price our terms promise (our contract with you)
Keep the date you unsubscribed from waitlist emails, and, if you asked about trying Jenner Learning free before it opens, when we sent you that email and when you told us "no thanks"Our legitimate interest in making sure we don't email you again, or send the early free access email more than once, while still keeping our founding price promise if you ask for a code
Note wrong founding codes typed on an accountOur legitimate interest in stopping codes being guessed
Count how families heard about us, from the optional "How did you hear about us?" answer on the waitlist form and any short code in the link you arrived on when you joined the waitlist, asked for the free mock email or created your account, so we know where to spend on reaching parents. We only look at totals, and no cookie is used. Our legitimate interest in knowing which ways of reaching parents work
Send you one email when the Birmingham 11+ entry dates are published, if you asked for it on the guideYour consent, which you can withdraw at any time
Send you one email when booking opens for the free mock weekend on 30 and 31 January 2027, if you asked for it on our free mock page. It says only when and how to book.Your consent, which you can withdraw at any time with the unsubscribe link in the email or by emailing us
Run the beta: give beta families early features, send the weekly feedback form, read the answers, and check in with families who haven't used Jenner Learning for a weekOur legitimate interest in testing and improving Jenner Learning before it opens. Taking part, and answering the form, are up to you.
Look into questions families report, and fix themOur legitimate interest in accurate questions
Hold your email for a free account we've offered you before you sign up, and email you 14 days before a free account endsOur legitimate interest in offering free accounts to families we choose. Once you've signed up, to provide the service (contract).

We never sell information, never show adverts and never use your child's information to market anything to them. The system makes some decisions about your child on its own: it chooses their next question, suggests what to practise next and, for GCSE Maths, marks their typed answers and works out estimated grades. None of these has any effect beyond their practice, and you or your child can ask us to check a mark.

Your child's information

Our contract is with you, not with your child, so we don't rely on it for your child's information. We rely on legitimate interests instead: you've asked us to help your child practise for the 11+ or GCSE Maths, and we can't do that without their answers and scores. We've weighed this against your child's interests and privacy, with their best interests coming first. We think the balance is right because:

  • we use their information only for their practice, never for adverts or marketing
  • we keep as little as we can: no surname and no email address. A GCSE student can have a sign-in of their own, but only on a device you link, and you can remove it at any time
  • no other family ever sees their name, answers or scores
  • we delete their progress 12 months after your plan ends, or after your last mock exam weekend if you only book mock exams
  • you can see everything we hold about them in your parent area, except a GCSE student's typed answers and working notes, which stay private to them

GCSE students are old enough to understand their own information, so we tell them directly what we hold and what you can see. They can download their own practice data in student mode, and they can ask us about it themselves.

You can ask us to stop using your child's information at any time by emailing hello@jennerlearning.co.uk. We will stop, although your child won't then be able to practise on Jenner Learning.

We check this balance again whenever we add something new for children, and at least once a year.

Who else sees it

These companies store or process information for us, under contracts that only let them use it to provide their service to Jenner Learning.

  • Supabase stores our database. The database sits in London.
  • Vercel hosts the website. Our site runs on its London servers.
  • Stripe takes payments and stores card details.
  • Resend, in the United States, sends our account and service emails, such as your weekly summary (which includes your children's first names, how their practice went and a suggestion for the week) and trial reminders.
  • Cloudflare runs our domain name (DNS) and routes email sent to our contact address on to our inbox. Its Turnstile check also runs on our waitlist, free mock, sign-up and password reset forms, and the form a GCSE student uses to link their own device, to stop automated tools sending them. It looks at technical details of your browser and connection while you use those forms, and doesn't set advertising or tracking cookies. It is never used in child mode.
  • Microsoft Outlook holds any emails you send us.
  • Tally (a Belgian form service; answers stored in the EU) holds the answers to our beta feedback form.

We use Anthropic's Claude to help write some second explanations of questions, which a person checks before any child sees them. It is sent only our own questions, never anything about you or your child.

Our social media pages

We have a Facebook Page and an Instagram account. If you follow, like or comment on them, Meta sees that under its own privacy policy. Meta gives us anonymous statistics about visits to our Page (Page Insights). For these statistics, Meta and we are joint controllers. Meta has agreed to handle your rights requests about them and to be responsible for its part: see facebook.com/legal/terms/page_controller_addendum. We use Metricool, a scheduling tool, to publish our posts. It doesn't receive anything about your family from us. We never use social media to find, contact or track families, and we never post about children. If you message us on social media, we'll reply there or ask you to email us, and we don't keep the message anywhere else.

Some of these companies are based in the United States and may access information from there. When that happens, the transfer is protected by safeguards approved under UK law, such as the UK Extension to the Data Privacy Framework or the UK's standard contract terms.

We would only share information with anyone else if the law required it, for example a court order, or to protect a child from harm.

How long we keep it

  • Your account and your children's progress stay while your plan is running.
  • When your plan ends, we keep your children's progress for 12 months, so it's all still there if you come back. After that we delete it.
  • If a GCSE Maths place ends while your plan carries on for other children, we keep that child's progress for 12 months after the place ends, so it's there if they come back, then delete it.
  • If you book mock exams without a plan, we keep your children's results for 12 months after your last mock exam weekend, then delete them. We keep a record of what you paid, without your child's details, because the law requires financial records.
  • You can ask us to delete your account and everything in it sooner. We'll do it within one month.
  • A GCSE student's linked devices are deleted 90 days after they were last used, or 90 days after you removed them. Everything else about a GCSE student, including their typed answers, practice papers and the extra time setting, goes with the rest of your child's progress, as above.
  • Records of printable downloads (what you downloaded, when, and its licence code) are kept for 2 years from the download, then deleted, or sooner if your account is deleted.
  • Clue, mock exam timing, refresh dates, mock plan colours and the letters typed in for a paper mock go with the rest of your child's progress, as above.
  • Payment records are kept for 6 years, because the law requires it.
  • When you download your data or ask us to delete your account, we keep a record of the request, with your email address, for 3 years after we've dealt with it, then delete it. This shows we did what you asked.
  • A free account's details are kept while it lasts and for 12 months after it ends or we remove it, then deleted. If you ask us to delete your account, we end and delete any free account straight away.
  • Waitlist details, including your early free access choices and any founding invitation or code, are kept until Jenner Learning opens and for 12 months after, or until you ask us to remove them. They are then deleted together. The locked copy of your code, and any note of wrong codes typed, are deleted sooner, as explained above. If you start a plan at the founding price, that price is part of your plan and payment records, which we keep as described above.
  • Beta feedback form answers are deleted by 31 March 2027. We keep only totals and the fixes they led to. Your beta number is removed with your free account's details. If you ask us to delete your account during the beta, we delete your form answers too, within one month. Tally clears deleted answers from its backups within 90 days.
  • We keep question reports so we know how each question was fixed. When your account is deleted, the report is no longer linked to you. We delete any note you wrote 12 months after the report is closed.
  • If you asked to be emailed when the Birmingham 11+ dates are published, we send you one email when they are, then delete your email address. If the dates are not published, we delete it after 12 months at most. You can ask us to remove it sooner.
  • If you asked to be emailed when booking opens for the free mock weekend, we delete your email address and everything kept with it on 1 April 2027, 60 days after the weekend. You can ask us to remove it sooner.
  • If we have to act to protect a child, we keep a private record until the child would be 25 (or 6 years if longer).
  • We delete your login (your email address, password and account details) 12 months after your children's progress is deleted, or 12 months after your last log-in if that is later, as long as you have no plan running. If there are no children on your account, the 12 months run from your last log-in or the end of your last plan, whichever is later. We email you about 30 days before we delete your login, and if you log in before then, we keep it.

Cookies

We use only the cookies the site needs to work. One keeps you logged in. Another keeps your child in child mode until you enter your PIN. On a GCSE student's own device, one keeps the device linked to student mode until you remove it. Cloudflare's Turnstile security check on some forms may also store or read technical details it needs to stop automated tools. We don't use advertising or tracking cookies, so there's nothing to accept or turn off.

Your browser also remembers a few choices made on that device, so we don't ask again: if you say "No thanks" to the tip about adding Jenner Learning to your home screen, and your child's settings for mock exam practice (reading the instructions out, a sound with the time warnings, and the answer sheet layout). These stay on the device, are never sent to us, and are used for nothing else. You can clear them at any time in your browser's settings, and nothing stops working.

Your rights

You can ask us to

  • send you a copy of the information we hold about you or your children
  • correct anything that's wrong
  • delete your information
  • give you your information in a file you can take elsewhere
  • stop using it for a particular purpose

You can do two of these yourself in the Your data section of your parent area. Download my data gives you a file of everything we hold about your family straight away, except a GCSE student's typed answers and working notes, which they download themselves in student mode. Delete my account asks us to delete your account and your children's details and progress, and we do it within one month. If you pay for a plan, we cancel it first.

For anything else, email hello@jennerlearning.co.uk and we'll reply within one month.

GCSE students can download their own practice data in student mode and can contact us about their information themselves. If you and your child ask us for different things, we'll consider both, with your child's best interests first.

Complaints about your data

If you're unhappy with how we handle your information, contact us first at hello@jennerlearning.co.uk. We'll acknowledge your complaint within 30 days. You can also complain to the Information Commission (the ICO) at ico.org.uk/make-a-complaint.

Changes to this notice

If we change this notice in a way that matters, we'll email you before the change takes effect.

For children

There's a version with pictures for children in Year 3 at jennerlearning.co.uk/privacy/year-3.

This is what Jenner Learning keeps about you, and why.

  • What we keep: your first name, your school year, your answers (and whether you used a clue), your working notes, your scores, your badges and stickers. In mock exams we also keep when you answered each question. If your grown-up adds the month you were born, we keep that too.
  • Why: to pick your next question, and to show your grown-up how you're doing. Your birth month is only used to make mock exam scores fair for younger and older children.
  • Who can see it: your grown-up. They can see your answers, whether you used a clue, and how you used your time in mock exams. They can read your working notes, so don't write your last name, your school or where you live in them.
  • What we never do: show you adverts, or give your answers to anyone else. We look at lots of children's answers mixed together to fix tricky questions, with no names on them.
  • Read to me: the talking button uses your tablet or computer's own voice. What it reads stays on your device, and we don't keep a note of when you use it.
  • How long: if your family stops using Jenner Learning, we keep your work for one year, then delete it.
  • Want it deleted, or worried about anything? Ask your grown-up. They can ask us, and we'll delete it.

If your child uses GCSE Maths student mode, they have their own notice at jennerlearning.co.uk/privacy/student.
